I think round times play a huge role in the gameplay of multiplayer.
I personally don't think we need 6-8 minutes for an 8v8 map.
And I'm tired of a team having 4 minutes to camp, and STILL have time to complete all the objectives 2x fold.
What are your thoughts on how long the round times need to be for 8v8 maps?

We can't really do anything about it, character movement is too slow.
Do you think S4 will be faster than S:CON?

I remember playing 3 minute round times all the time on the PS2 installments. We would still have time to complete the objectives 2x fold. Since when was a tie a crime? Why do teams have to camp 4 mins to get this tie? In my opinion, if you give a team 6-8 minutes to complete an objective that would normally take 90 seconds, you get an awfully slow gameplay experience. Something as simple as shorter round times provide a more action packed round that feels even more intense because every second becomes even more valuable. How many times have you had some intense gunbattles, checked the stat screen and noticed it's down to 2v2? Then you check the time and there's still 3 1/2 minutes left on the clock? lol. Seems to happen to me all the time. Short round times seemed to make a team choose which way to play the map. Defensively, or Offensively. I think each round gets a little stale when you have the time to "see-saw" between these two tactics 4-5 times in one round. I used to see it where one round we blitzed, then maybe the next one round we hold back. It's like we chose & executed a "play" on a round-to-round basis. Now you just see ONE play every round, every map, every mode on Confrontation. Hold back the first 4 mintues.....and when only one person is left alive, THEN we'll blitz. We went from "voting campers" on the PS2, to ignoring all game mode objectives and counting kills from our spawn on Confrontation.

Agreed, even the series that everyone is copying (COD) has short rounds in Search and Destroy not sure if you played it, but its like Demolition, but only 1 knows where the bomb is and has to plant it.

5 is acceptable. I remember the S2 standard being 6 minutes, which felt way too long imo. I'm also fine with 4 as well.

I like 4 min. because it gets people to move but I also like 5 min so you have extra time to find the last guy. Hard choice

Depends on the map sizes.
You can play 8v8 on a map like Crossroads large and 5 minutes won't be long enough.
If the maps are large versions, 6 minutes should be just fine.
If the maps are small versions, 5 minutes should be fine.
Then again, it depends on the side switching. IF there is no side switching, rounds could be 20 minutes for all I care, chances are since there is a tiebreaker round, people won't camp and actually try to complete objectives, and the round will be over in 3-4 minutes anyways.

I played Socom 2 - CA on nothing but 3 or 4 minute round times.
That's probably why Confrontation gets so boring so easily. Freaking noob clans are used to taking 3 minutes just to peak around their spawn corner.

I went with 5... thought about 4 but I know I would be very pissed if I ran out of time to complete an objective... So I went middle of the road

I can say regardless on how long or short the rounds are, my clan will do everything in its power not to complete any objectives.

I can say regardless on how long or short the rounds are, my clan will do everything in its power not to complete any objectives. Interesting clan tactics. I really despise teams that work that way and consider it a cheap approach to teamwork. Honestly, I consider people who play the game right, to be much like people who work for a living. They earn their win. People who camp and ignore objectives remind me a thief on the street corner trying to get a free paycheck. You depend on someone else for your success and can't create it on your own. Just remember, only SLANT 6 bought you a Socom where objectives didn't count. That strat won't work in Socom 4. Best of luck to you if you try!

I think round time should vary on game mode, for example if socom 4 had the same game modes we have in confrontation (I know it wont) I would make game modes such as Extraction, Escort, Breach, Demo all be at minimum 5 minutes. But for game modes like Suppression and Elimination have shorter round times like 4 minutes. Im not sure where to group control. I think the maps that encourage camping (suppression) should be kept to shorter round times

I think 5 minutes is fine. Any longer and having to sit through camping would get boring. Any shorter I would feel rushed. I don't camp unless its like escort to stay with vips, but I will move up to keep searching the area, wait a second, then continue moving.

Should depend on the map and the mode it is designed for. Typically 5 mins should be good but small suppression/elimination type maps could be 4 mins. While maps like Enowapi would of been best as 6 mins.
