Doing a little double dipping here as I posted this on the SOCOM.com forums as well. But I wanted to get everyone's feedback on this. Here is my idea.
Since SOCOM's online environment is usually a very tough thing for most players to jump into, especially if you don't play the game from launch, I think including some sort of "Initiation" mode would benefit both new comers and veteran players. What if before jumping online the game prompts you to play Initiation mode. The player can cancel and just jump online, but there would be trophies for completing it as well as the obvious benefit of learning the rules of online play before actually jumping straight into it with other human players. The Initiation mode would go over the basic rules of each mode, and offer you some challenges against AI characters (ie: capture the hostages on map X). These set of challenges would lay the groundwork for new players to understand the basics of how SOCOM 4's online works, while also benefiting the online community as new players jumping into the game would have a basic understanding of how to play instead of having that first hour of "what the hell is going on" that is the barrier to so many online games. Not to mention it would also help retain the classic hardcore feeling of SOCOM without having to compromise anything. If new players know how the online is going to work coming into it, they are a lot more likely to stick with it and keep playing.

They did that with MAG, but it didn't prepare you at all.
I think this would help, but certainly not change the fact that everyone else has better weapons than you because you didn't purchase it upon release.
Great idea, though!

Great idea! The newcombers can carry my shoulder pads and extra ammo. I hope Dez Bryant doesn't play Socom.

Holy hell I fucked up this post. Had put it inside David's. Here is a repost:
I just Socom would do an online bot mode. Like a lot of PC Games as well as what KZ2 did.

This would be a good idea even though I won't use it I have experience in the games harder ones. People say Oo how do you change grenades so quick or how do you do other things. This would help the new comers..

I agree, there needs to be some sort of way to keep the "casuals" or "newbies" playing MP. Socom is a hardcore game, and has a huge learning curve. If you don't know what your doing, and you don't know the layout of the maps your going to get owned, it's that simple. These players play MP, then realize "damn this is hard", "what I don't respawn" and they go off to something easier. If there is a way to teach the new players a little something before they jump on for the first time, maybe we can keep some of them. Thus, increasing the online numbers which will make for a better experience for all.
