Back in the day you could select double ammo as a load-out option, which if you could not guess, doubled the amount of mags you carried. Socom 4 already has the "ammo pool" feature that will automagically replenish an entire mag upon reload. This removes the strategical element of the player making sure he has a full-ish mag ready to go in his weapon. I always used double ammo back in Socom 1, when I used to use the M14. You would run out of bullets real fast with that gun's rate of fire back then and the 20 round mag.
Do you think Socom 4 will have double ammo as a loadout option in MP? How will the ammo pool effect this?

5 Magazines is more than enough.
The only reason 2X Ammo was necessary was because of the limited ammo and no ammo pool.

In s2, most guns started with only 2 or 3 mags, thus double ammo was necessary.
Now, pretty much all guns start with 5 mags worth of ammo. Double ammo becomes redundant.
So no, I don't think it needs to make a comeback.

so just to clarify, the "ammo pool" feature just consolidates left over rounds from mags to make a full mag the next time you cycled through them right?

Yeah, instead of having 5 mags with 5 bullets, you will automatically have one mag of 25 bullets.

I don't think double ammo will be needed. I have never used double ammo in any socom neither do I plan on using it for this one unless you get like 2 mags per ammo.

So no, I don't think it needs to make a comeback. True, Back in Socom 1 and 2, most weapons had 2-3 mags(plus the one in the weapon). This was fine and dandy when the games were 8v8 or smaller. As chances are, you would only engage 2-5 people on average. When Socom 3 was released, it doubled the number of enemies, which you would have to double the amount of ammo. When I used to play confrontation, I would constantly be looking for more ammo. Not because I had a couple of near empty mags, but because I only had so many rounds in total after engaging so many enemies and covering team mates.

BTW 2X Ammo was very heavy to carry with you.
I never saw the point in having to lug a box full of ammunition around when you can have 6 perfectly fine magazines.

Yes. But with modifications and changes to the way the entire loadout system works.
First it should be extra mags not double ammo. With your standard AR choosing extra mags would provide two additional mags for each gear slot that you picked it for and if you wanted to do nothing but spray and pray you could fill up on only extra mags as you gear selections.
Default ammo loadout should be decreased to three of four mags total and the gear slots increased back to three. This would require your typical player to devote one gear selection to extra mags. Any player that wished to be a grenade whore would have to be very cafefull with their shots and any player that wanted to be a spray and pray whore with a ton of ammo won't be throwing any grenades. Would help bring strategic options and planning back to the game.
And ammo pooling is just shit for SOCOM, it's dumbing it down like everything else they seem to be doing.
