I was wondering how many people actually play online?
If they sell millions copies but you only see 50,000 on a night then where is everyone at??
Do majority of the people play offline only?
I do realize people take the game back but does anyone know??
This could be a reason the SP makeover
Someone please enlighten me because I was thinking about this for a while when I couldn't sleep.

Majority of the people buy them for Single Player. There is only 28% if not less of United States population that's actually connected to broadband internet. Then you have 360, PS3 and PC's that are sharing that market of 28% of actual homes being connectect to the internet.
Pretty much leaves out 70% of population that don't have internet that that are out there strictly playing Single Player and LAN.

I honestly thought that more people played online.
That's is not a lot of people then after dividing it three ways. Now I see why they are redoing the SP.
Thanks for enlightening me HTK.

I think 28% of America having internet was true during the PS2 days.....
But NOW, I'd like to think more people than that have internet!
Maybe I'm wrong. I had it pegged out as closer to 60%, maybe even 70% for 2010.
Can anyone find any stats? I'm going to go search now.

Interesting read right here.......... maisonbisson.com/blog/post/11088/us-census-on-internet-access-and-computing/"Sixty-two million U.S. households, or 55 percent of American homes, had a Web-connected computer in 2003, according to just-released U.S. Census data. That’s up from 50 percent in 2001, and more than triple 1997′s 18 percent figure." I'm thinking for 2010 it's closer to 65% now.

You have to go into detail. that's who's connected which is EVERYONE. No how many consoles have been sold? PS3? Xbox 360? Now, once you have that. How many actually connect to internet? That's where that % drops like a mother fucker. So, in the end. Online on PSN users and Xbox Live combined is still extremely low number compared to people that are not connect or people that are but simply don't connect to 360 and PSN. know What I mean? So the majority of sales are for Single Player.

In all fairness to HTK, he did state BROADBAND.
The figures I provided were simply "homes with internet", not specifically addressing any type of connection speeds of the service or what that service is used for.
I will dig a little further and see if I can get some "Broadband" info, which is required to truly play the PS3 online.
But that might be hard to find.
BUT, I did find the Census data very interesting.

BUT, I did find the Census data very interesting. yeah, Michael Pachter talked about this. He's an analyst within the gaming industry. I mean, at the end of the day you have to look at: - How many PS3 owners are connected to PSN - How many of these owners will get SOCOM 4? A lot of details and numbers have to go into this formula and its low most of the times. That's why you see these games sell about 2 to 4 million but only have, lets be generous 250,000 playing online. But these online active numbers drop down after 1 month to about 100,000 and then start declining...

Regarding the number of Broadband users in the US.... compnetworking.about.com/b/2005/05/14/how-many-people-have-broadband-internet.htm"...the U.S., estimates generally fall in the 30-35 million range, with about another 20 milliion expected to sign up over this year and next." Earlier, we learned that 62 million had "internet" in 2003. Although we are diving into some "bunk math" here, lol, let's just specualte and use our imagination. So roughly, HALF of all the homes out there with internet, have broadband. So only HALF of the 62 million people that have internet, are even able to connect their PS3 online. Next question would be....how people have a PS3 in the US? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3"United States: nearly 12 million "units" as of 14 April, 2010" There ya go. 12 million people, and/or families in the US even have a PS3. And only, roughly, 30-32 million people in the US even have Broadband to go online with it. Very interesting. I've never actually put all this into perspective before. Damn, GTA4 sold almost 7 million copies in the US alone! Rockstar Games snagged half the market! Woah! Whoever started this thread.....KUDOS!

At the same time out of those 12 Million there will be a % of people that are not CONNECTED to internet.
Then once you finally find how many are actually CONNECTED, then you have to figure out what games do these people play. There is a lot that goes around, but Single Player is still a dominant force in the industry today and a lot of SP ONLY oriented games sell extremely well.
There is a lot that goes into this picture and people generally don't break it down and I hate talking people that just speculation shit.
GOOD THREAD FOR SURE, been wanting to discuss this in detail.

lol "analysts".
I want Michael Pachte's job.
I could make $150,000 a year "speculating" imaginary numbers and putting together a power point "guessing" Socom 4 sales.
I mean, I'm sure the guy "analyzes" all sorts of statistics and reports, but at the end of the day.........
it's all just a "professional guess".

Those are very interesting numbers.
So at most we will probably see 100,000 people actually Socom 4 online. (most likely not at the same time.)

That is up to Zipper.
If they can please the fanbase with MP, then add ALLLLLL those Move & casuals out there......
We just might see something BIGGER than any previous Socoms.
We'll have to wait for MP to reveal itself.....
