I like this idea alot PAUL, but I would not make it available to new members until 40 or 50 posts.

IMO, it takes away from some of the great subjects that may be posted on the forum because they will just chit chat in the chat box.

I agree. I think it would almost take away from the posting we all like to read. A chatbox convo would disappear in minutes, even seconds depending on how busy this site gets.

But maybe a cap of 10 msgs per hour or something along those lines.
That way people only used if they really needed to.

I would also see the shoutbox potentially turning into flame sessions quite easily.

yea i can see the pros and cons...but i vote yes to chatbox

Just so our members know, the SocomIV staff has looked into this and even did a quick beta run yesterday.



We may incorporate it on "special occasions" in the near future.

We'll keep you all informed when the time comes. Right now, consider it "Pre Alpha".

Yeah, I was actually looking into doing it when we do Socast on Confrontation, so we can chat and war at the same time. We can do this on special occasions like that.

I can speak from experience on the whole chat box matter from being an admin on other sites, that the chat box while it is a highly requested feature on most sites actually takes away from what most boards are trying to do which is have people actually post. As most will find & see for them self's is that members will be more prompted to post quick messages on the chat box rather then actually create a new topic or thread. Again this is only from my vast experience with running sites & also being an admin myself.

So that is something to greatly take into account prior to implementing it. Just my 2 cents on that.

I can related to this and I know its a NO NO when it comes to having a Chat Box a permenant thing. So that's why we're looking at it only for specific occasions.

I believe chat box will be good until a certain limit of people on this site but once the activity of this site increases you will have to take it out because it will get out of control.

Would be a cool feature, but once the sit gets to crowded it can go bad, just like ventricaL said.

The feature is actually live right now if you look to the right of your "logout" button.


We use it every Friday. Our site members login when the new Zipline are posted and all listen to it together.


It's kinda cool knowing everyone in the chatroom is hearing Zipline at the same time and can provide live chat responses.

Yea, we've got the chat box enabled permanately for now.

Seems as if it's main purpose for now will be for Zipline LIVE discussions.

Once the community grows larger i'm sure we'll see more use out of it...
